Coming Together for a Stronger Future

Coming Together for a Stronger Future was a one-year project funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage that aimed to confront racism and discrimination, promote intercultural and interfaith understanding and foster equitable opportunities to participate fully in Canadian society.

Information gathered by the project was used in the formation of the “Know Your Rights” workshop, which focuses on educating participants about their rights within the Canadian Criminal Justice System. Two resource guides were produced, entitled “Know Your Rights – Criminal Justice System,” and “Know Your Rights – Racism.”

Information was gathered for these resources through consultation with Knowledge Keepers, community engagement sessions, focus groups with professionals in the Canadian Criminal Justice System, and a survey delivered to the community through both online channels as well as through the mail. The resource guides are available both in paper copies as well as online on the Newfoundland Aboriginal Women’s Network website here.
