Gender Based Violence Prevention Capacity Coordinator
This position focuses on building NAWN’s internal capacity to deliver gender-based violence prevention programming through workshop development, training, and social enterprise planning. The successful candidate will establish a volunteer steering committee to guide project development, identify free gender-based violence prevention workshops designed for Indigenous women, youth, children, and families, and assess the skills and competencies required for effective delivery. They will develop a comprehensive capacity-building workshop program for staff, Board members, Indigenous women, and volunteers that includes curriculum planning, logistics, budgeting, facilitation strategies, crisis response, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
The position will also focus on strengthening partnerships and collaboration by developing a facilitation and partnership program that identifies shared goals with like-minded organizations and builds stronger community networks. This includes creating partnership development guidelines centered on mutual respect, equitable workload distribution, and collaborative approaches to reducing gender-based violence.
The successful candidate will facilitate training for NAWN staff, Board members, Indigenous women, and volunteers through in-person and virtual formats where possible. Training will focus on how to initiate, build, and manage effective partnerships that support violence prevention initiatives and long-term community capacity-building goals. Reporting systems will monitor workshop delivery, participant outcomes, partnership development, and overall project impact.
The coordinator will develop and implement all aspects of social enterprise opportunities to support the long-term sustainability of NAWN. This includes creating systems for revenue generation, program delivery, pricing, budgeting, financial reporting, crisis response, evaluation, and sustainability planning. They will also design and deliver training for staff, Board members, Indigenous women, and volunteers in workshop facilitation, budgeting, pricing strategies, financial management, crisis response, and evaluation. Reporting tools will be established to track participation, skills development, partnerships, and stakeholder feedback to measure impact and strengthen future programming.
Qualifications The successful candidate will have:
• A post-secondary degree/diploma in Political Science, Social Science, Women’s Studies, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, or 3–5 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination)
• Experience in gender-based violence prevention programming, workshop development, and community training
• Experience designing and delivering capacity-building programs for staff, Boards, and community members
• Ability to establish and support committees or working groups, including volunteer steering committees
• Experience assessing training needs and developing effective curriculum, logistics, and delivery plans
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in social enterprise or fee-for-service models, including budgeting, pricing, and sustainability planning
• Strong skills in program evaluation and reporting, including tracking outcomes, participation, and partnerships
• Experience in partnership development and community collaboration, including Indigenous organizations and service providers
• Ability to facilitate training in both in-person and virtual settings • Strong organizational, planning, and computer skills (Microsoft Office, Zoom, SurveyMonkey, etc.)
• Experience working in trauma-informed and culturally grounded environments (asset)
• Respectful experience working with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous communities
• Strong communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Demonstrates initiative by proactively identifying needs, acting, and advancing tasks without prompting.
• Clear Certificate of Conduct (criminal record check)
Employment Details: This position is based in Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, with a start date as soon as possible and an end date of September 30, 2027. The successful candidate will generally work a standard workweek; however, evening and weekend work will be required. 35 hour per week, pay range $25 - $28/ hour. The role includes travel within the province. A personal vehicle is required, and travel allowances will be provided for approved out-of-town travel.

Youth Program Worker
Job Summary
The Newfoundland Aboriginal Women’s Network operates culturally-based programs for Indigenous youth and their families in both school and communities that surround the Bay St. George region. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Program Worker to support and empower children, youth, and families in our community. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and a passion for educating and fostering positive development. This role involves creating a safe and engaging environment where youth can thrive, learn, and grow. Collaborations with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, mental health professionals, community organizations and leaders will help the youth and their families learn how their culture and teachings can be applied in everyday life.
Employment Details:
• Full-time until March 31, 2027;
• 35 hours per week/$25 per hour;
• Position is located in Stephenville, with regular travel to schools and communities in the Bay St. George region;
• Must have a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle to use daily;
• Travel allowances for out-of-town travel.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement programs and activities tailored to the needs of youth.
• Provide guidance and support to children in various settings.
• Foster positive relationships with youth and families by being approachable, understanding, and attentive to their needs.
• Collaborate with a number of people and organizations to ensure programming is effective and meaningful.
• Organize group activities that encourage teamwork, creativity, and personal growth.
• Comfortable facilitating and leading activities with school-aged children/youth, and also in community with families.
• Promote positive interactions and conflict resolution.
• Advocate and support the youths’ and families needs, be willing to handle issues that arise.
• Comfortable with traditional ceremonies, drumming and singing.
• Maintain accurate records of participation and progress for reporting purposes.
• Complete administrative tasks such as program documentation, reports, complete and prepare payment forms for mileage reimbursements, supports, rentals, ordering supplies.
• Strong hands-on experience with all Microsoft Office, Google Forms, other digital programs such as CANVA, PosterMyWall, and social media such as Facebook, TikTok, and other platforms;
• Must transport youth, Elders, Knowledge keepers, and colleagues staff to programming in schools and community.
• Other duties as required
Requirements:
• Experience working with children in educational, recreational, and community settings is essential.
• Familiarity with strategies for supporting individuals with a variety of needs.
• Strong communication skills to effectively engage with youth, families, and colleagues.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also demonstrating initiative in individual tasks.
• A genuine passion for educating and empowering young people to reach their full potential.
• Flexibility to adapt programs based on the diverse needs of participants.
• Flexible schedule, early mornings, work weekends, evenings, and overnights for multi day camping trips and gatherings.
• Clear certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check.
• Three (2) to five (4) years of experience in culturally-based projects.

Summer Student
NAWN is Hiring a Summer Student!
Position: Workshop and Program Support at our office 90 Main Street, Stephenville
Term: 8 Weeks, 35 hours per week, $16.35/hour
Daytime, evenings, weekends
NAWN is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated summer student to support staff with workshops, programs, and office activities. We are seeking a student who will be returning to high school in September to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with the preparation and delivery of workshops, programs, and community activities.
• Support communications and outreach efforts.
• Organize and maintain program supplies and materials.
• Provide information and assistance to community members and participants.
• Assist with general office duties as required.
In addition, they will have opportunities to learn about and participate in Mi'kmaq culture, history, traditional teachings, and skill development activities.
We encourage self-identifying Indigenous students who are returning to high school in September. Applicants are asked to include this information in their cover letter and resume.
